Power Out Again

Yep, electric service is the worst in the world. It is out again with no sign of repair, thousands of homes.  I have operated networks in over 20 countries and New Jersey is clearly the most unreliable. But now the Government is forcing an all electric world. Backups are on gas but soon they will be forbidden. No idea when any power will return, food goes to waste, and the sick in need are left to wither. Think about it!

Olympics

The French can do brilliant artistic events like the Winter Olympics in Albertville in 1992. I have just viewed a bit of the Paris fiasco. It is a cacophony on nonsense. I would guess even God got made and made it rain! First sending countries down the Seine in boats is rant with ricks. No one could really see them. Second the acts in between were a cacophony of idiocy! What and who were they. Then a sign language singer! And the list goes on. France is on the verge of collapse!

AI and Exams

When I think back on the SATs, I remember the many multiple choice questions. In reading comprehension the questions were mainly tricks of some sort. On Medical Board exams the tricky questions abound. Typically they are the type of what is "not", or which "two" and so forth. The questions demand skills in reading comprehension more than medical skills.

Now using AI one may able to ask for a detailed written report demonstrating skills of diagnosis and treatment. The pros and cons of medicine. For example one is presented with a case, you then prepare a written long form answer and even ask for more tests etc. The AI system, for want of a better term, can analyze your long form answers and assess the quality of your work.

Gone would be any and all multiple choices. It would be akin to the old oral exams. I remember my Doctoral Orals, I learned more there than anywhere else. I learned how to give an answer on the fly and structure it to meet the demands of my audience.

Ockham Redux

William of Ockham was excommunicated by John XXII, the Avignon prelate who claimed to be a true pope in 1328. Subsequently Ockham went on to demonstrate clearly that John was a heretic. After all, the pope was the Bishop of Rome and Avignon was quite a distance from that place just as a start.

The NY Times relates the excommunication of an Archbishop by the current Bishop of Rome for asserting his heresies. The Times notes:

The Vatican said on Friday that it had excommunicated Archbishop Carlo Maria ViganĂ², the church’s former ambassador to the United States, after finding him guilty of schism for refusing to recognize the authority of Pope Francis and the liberal reforms enacted after the Second Vatican Council in the 1960s. rchbishop ViganĂ² has emerged as one of the most unbridled conservative critics of Francis, calling him in public statements a “false prophet” and a “servant of Satan,” while embracing right-wing conspiracy theories and lauding former President Donald J. Trump.

There is a strong similarity worth the reading of my work on Ockham.
