Priority Mail is in my opinion and my experience a scam. It is nothing more than a fancy envelope, a tracking number, a high price and a letter that gets no where or worse to the wrong place! Not once did they ever deliver as they promised, not one single time! Many were lost, mis-delivered, delayed etc.
If we are closing down the Government I suggest the USPS first. Let Amazon deliver mail. They seem to get 90%+ of my packages on time. Next day even. Try that at the USPS.
Again and again I have had to deal with the USPS incompetence. Welcome to the Government employee work ethic. To compound it I sent a Priority mail letter to Atlanta, the worst of the worst USPS sites. After a week it has arrived at Atlanta, NY, a small town near the Finger Lakes and no where near Georgia. Soon the letter will be lost!
Perhaps closing down the Government is a good idea, permanently! Amazon seems to get things done, they can do the mail!
Fortunately General Sherman had a better sense of direction!

Now here is my experience with them:
1. Yesterday in the rain I received notice of an Amazon delivery, so I went to the PO Box in the rain and, you guessed it, no package. The driver apparently saw me as he was driving away and turned back past me then made a U turn driving past me and threw the package at me as he passed. He may have been going just under 10 mph but one could call that reckless.
2. I have sent Certified Return Receipt letters to an address at an adjacent PO. They not only never got delivered but were lost! Totally lost.
3. In delivering Amazon packages if the delivery person apparently does not want to do it they either say our mail box is unreachable of that I must come to the PO to pick up the package, mid pandemic.
4. Packages are left on the curb, atop snow piles or in the rain.
5. The Post Master calls and says it is my fault....
6. Tried to write Postmaster General, clueless, then the Congressperson who appoint the local Postmaster, her response was a form letter thanking me for supporting the Post Office!
7. Multiple First Class letters are lost, forever!

So who could love this grossly incompetent political favor factory!
For centuries now we have looked at the Post Office as old reliable. Recently it has become predictably unreliable. They lose certified mail, car registrations, medical license registrations, critical documents, and the list goes on. Then they have the gall to claim it was your fault. Your house is 20 feet from the road, your mailbox is a centimeter off in specified height. It was cold, it was raining, the sun was in my eyes.
This is not a political problem. It is an attitude problem. They have a job, they cannot be sued, they cannot be fired and the longer they work the more they get in retirement. Yet work is not what they seem to do.
We are told by politicians that they are perfect, they track our mail, they are efficient and other such great praises. However the fact is they are on the verge of collapse, and their gross negligence and incompetence may bring us all down with them.
No Postmaster General can make any difference. The underlying workforce just does not care and there can be no consequences. Perhaps selling of the Post Office would be a good idea. Think Amazon?

In an interview ... said he hoped to receive his medication Monday and noted that he had never experienced an inability to receive the drugs from the post office if he was in possession of a tracking number. "There have been a few times in which it’s taken a week, week and a half, two weeks, but this is the first time I actually ran out and checking with the post office didn't do much good, even though I had a tracking number on it,” ... Because of the delays, ...he has gone without the medicine for a week and has had to rely on over-the-counter solutions from local drugstores. The Postal Service blamed delays on the coronavirus pandemic as well as years-old financial problems in a lengthy statement obtained by the news station.
Well here in New Jersey you can track your package. It gets to the Post Office, it is Out for Delivery, then back to the PO and you must retrieve it. This is not a virus problem, it is not an equipment problem, it is a problem of management and human gross negligence. The Carriers REFUSE to deliver. The last mile is the weakest link. I suspect the Hill tale above was configured to tell a tale they wanted to tell. In reality, truth be told, you have a grossly incompetent Government organization playing with people's lives to get a few more dollars.
Now that we can track things, through Amazon, USPS etc we can see what is really happening. Namely we have people who get paid by the taxpayers and refuse to do their job.

Let us start with some facts. You see facts are the basis of science and science is what we all believe in, here in New Jersey. Right Governor.
The above is a list of the LOST package just this year. You see the USPS REFUSES to deliver and then GONZO. Now the NY Times tells us our brilliant Governor has decided that we must vote by mail. Not only are we denied a secret ballot but we must hand our votes over to the USPS. Facts, yes folks those nasty facts, you know, believe me or your lying eyes type facts, and the Governor will use the USPS one of the most incompetent entities next to the MV bureaus.
Say goodbye to democracy!
The NY Times as usual lauds the vote by mail and tells us everything will be just fine! They note:
For example, if a voter’s signature was being challenged, the person would be alerted while there was still time to cure the problem. “Just like tracking an Amazon package,” she said, “you can see where your ballot is at every moment.”
Well folks, the facts seem to deny this rosy picture. But if you want to deny an individual's right to a secret ballot, welcome to New Jersey!
A brief update. Latest call from Postmistress, no mail at all yesterday, she alleges she does not have the people, if that is how I understood it. If they do not have them now, what about November. This has not been a recent problem as one can see by the dates on the complaints since early April. It has been growing and festering for most of the year. Is it deliberate? Are the Unions behind it? Clear;y the Postmaster General has no idea, after-all he is just a political appointee.
This is a shameful situation building for years. But now with the mandate for Mail In Voting, it opens it up to a total loss of trust in out Government. One shudders to think where that will lead. Why not just open the polls for say 4 days, Saturday through Tuesday. There are dozens of better options, unless of course you want this result.
The hurricane is over, the roads are clear, the power is back on and the USPS is back at refusing to deliver the mail again. Today again they say that I must pick up my mail at the Post Office. I have spoken to the Postmistress, a political appointee I believe, written the Postmaster General, and still they refuse. Nothing, not even a piece of junk mail.
And we want to entrust these incompetents to manage our voting. It is clear they cannot and more so will not perform their duties. They will, in my opinion and in my experience, lose mail, delay mail, misplace mail. How can any rational person place the future of our democracy in their hands?
