Healthcare is back. It is like one of those horror movies. It started in 1993 with Hillary Care, moved to Obamacare, now Warren Care (or Bernie Care if you will). Perhaps if we deal with some facts it may help.
First the above demonstrates the expenditures on Healthcare in 2017. Note most is on insurance. But there is a large chunk which is out of pocket.
The above is the percent break out.
The above is the breakout of insurance. Note 40% is Federally supported via Medicare and Medicaid. But one must add Federal Programs, CHIP efforts, and the other Government plans. Namely private insurance is only 37% as it stands now! One suspects that this is what Warren and her fans want to take over, all of it!
Add to this the growth rate as for example in Medicare as shown above. This growth is pervasive in all areas.
Now we must ask why take over the remaining 37%? Can Government do better? Doubtful. In fact it cannot. So why do this?
Perhaps because we still have 20 million uninsured. But do these people not get care if needed? No they do get care. So again what are we trying to solve?
But Warren adds dental and all other services as well. How does that fit in? I guess we will be spending 2020 redoing healthcare analyses, yet nothing really ever changes.
At time I feel like being in Camus' Myth of Sisyphus. Get up the hill and the gods push the rock down again. No one ever learns.
