I am always amazed about the alleged experts presented in the NY Times. One in particular, apparently devoid of any scientific or medical expertise, telling us how millions of lives could have been saved.
The authors states:
What if China had been open and honest in December 2019? What if the world had reacted as quickly and aggressively in January 2020 as Taiwan did? What if the United States had put appropriate protective measures in place in February 2020, as South Korea did? To examine these questions is to uncover a brutal truth: Much suffering was avoidable, again and again, if different choices that were available and plausible had been made at crucial turning points. By looking at them, and understanding what went wrong, we can hope to avoid similar mistakes in the future....In some countries, it would be easy to focus only on political leaders like President Donald Trump, who severely damaged America’s response.
This young neophyte seems to have in my opinion invented "facts" devoid of facts. Here are some facts, and we must state that the facts have a way of changing as we obtain more facts. You see, science is not a static thing like certain religious beliefs. There is no Nicene Creed about Corona viruses. Here we go:
1. Corona viruses have been around for a long time.
2. We understand a great deal about them but it is limited.
3. In the NEJM articles the authors showed the sequence of the spike protein. That allowed for an mRNA vaccine which was a variant of research in cancer therapies.
4. On February 4, 2020, I noted that we had a pandemic. On March 9, 2020, it was clear we had massive infections in New York City and that no one was doing anything. That meant from the CDC to the NYC public health organization.
5. In mid-March Trump banned travel from China and set out the vaccine attack. He was brutalized by the Democrats but the vaccine approach was brutally brilliant.
6. China knowingly and with malice obfuscated the origins. In fact this continues.
7. The WHO is a grossly politicized organization and let the virus slip through its fingers.
8. We still do not know exactly how the virus is transmitted despite many academic demos which are just that. They are devoid of any clinical evidence.
9. The virus has bled out as we have 25% infected and 80% vaccinated.
10 Variants will continue and even cross species variants will remain.
11. The best we can say is welcome to the world of viruses but be thankful for Warp Speed.
12. Finally, the CDC continues to bumble along with in my opinion grossly incompetent management. Just look at the recent test fiasco. They have apparently gone back into their hole until awakened by the next disaster. Pity.
We really do not need pseudo experts, in my opinion, to be revisionist story tellers. The full facts are not in and we should rely on competent professionals and not tyro sociologists.
