I guess I never read Technology Review that much but today their globalist palaver seems to be a bit over the edge. The most recent one states:
The WHO did not declare a “public health emergency of international
concern” until January 30, after the outbreak had spread to 19 countries
and the count of known infections had passed 8,000 people. And it didn’t declare a pandemic until March 11, which critics contend was far too late. That
leaves two choices. We can conclude, as Trump has, that multilateral
organizations like the WHO are inadequate to a severe crisis, so we must
revert to an international order where nation-states are the only
significant powers. Or we can accept that in a globalized world we need
strong global institutions. In fact, there is no choice: we need the global response. The WHO needs more authority, not less.
Now I have no idea who the author is but this globalization issue is utter nonsense. I have lived and run companies in over twenty countries. Each is different, each has pros and cons. Diversity of thought, approach, and consensus makes for a better result. Having a global decision body creates a massive bureaucracy like the EU. Perhaps the UK left for very valid reasons. Why should we be told what to do by some group estranged from our very way of life.
The WHO is like the World Bank, and all of the entities having been a part of the UN. Massive organizations with gigantic budgets, and poor execution.
I will try to figure out how I can cancel Technology Review. I guess they still want my money but please don't send this annoyance out. Please. Perhaps they can hire another Dean to handle this issue.
Otherwise we may find ourselves managed by some Major in the PLA, assigned to the WHO!
